The modern version of Asha Bhosle, Sunidhi Chauhan, a playback singer is best known for peppy and foot-tapping numbers. She has sung many such songs in Bollywood and has also recorded for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Gujarati films and is credited with over 2000 songs.
Chauhan began her career in singing at the age of four and was discovered by a local TV anchor. She came into limelight through a televised singing contest, Meri Awaz Suno. He won the contest and there was no stopping her from thereon. She also was a part of the singing show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, hosted by Sonu Nigam. Her first Hindi song was from the movie Shastra.
Ram Gopal Verma gave her the first big hit in her career, she sang the hit song, "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" from the movie Mast. Since then she has always been the first choice for singing hard-hitting songs and dance numbers. She has been nominated for fourteen Filmfare Awards, winning it on three occasions. She has won two Star Screen Awards, two IIFA Awards and one Zee Cine Award.
Chauhan, who believes that she is "the most versatile singer today," attributes her success to her parents and Indian singer Sonu Nigam. She says she would want to do only one film sometime in her life, just to fulfill her dreams of seeing herself as actress.
Personal Life:
Chauhan was born in Delhi. Her father is a minor theatre personality who pushed her into the music industry from a young age. She has a younger sister, Suneha. She completed her schooling from Greenway Modern School, Dilshad Garden.
In 2002, at the age of 18, Chauhan married director and choreographer Bobby Khan, after working on the music video for "Pehla Nasha." It was reported that the couple married secretly and the marriage was attended only by very close friends.
