Mumbai Airport under Pressure!

Mumbai airport, the second busiest airport in India is headed for some tough times.

According to authorities, the main runway is in need of urgent renovation and hence, the runway will now be closed for eight hours a day, six days a week for seven whole months!

This will cause major traffic problems as an alternative shorter runaway must be utilized. As it is short, the runway has load restrictions which prevent big planes with full loads from take-off and landing.

Many major airline carriers have in the past refused to use the shorter runway and since the new T3 runway in Delhi is about to open many carriers have already decided to make it their main hub. This means lots of lost revenue to Mumbai.

The renovated runway will also be widened to allow for mega jumbo planes such as the Airbus A380s to land and take-off.
